ESMA Bordeaux: an innovative campus on the banks of the Garonne!

It’s no coincidence that Bordeaux often features prominently in rankings of student towns and cities where life is good. Bordeaux, the beautiful, dynamic city, has been enjoying a resurgence in attractiveness for several years now, boosted by increased cultural and economic activity. It is in this ideal setting that ESMA moved in 2023, taking up residence in the new Euratlantique business and innovation district, and giving its students a foothold in a stimulating professional environment that is fully focused on the future.

Our accommodation

On-site
student accommodation

The Artemisia student residence is located at the heart of the ESMA Bordeaux campus. This brand new building, designed with eco-design and good living in mind, offers no less than 307 accommodation units, reserved primarily for students from the ESMA and CinéCréatis creative schools. This will make it easier for them to settle in Bordeaux while they study! To meet the daily needs of students, each flat – with an average surface area of 18m² – includes a kitchenette, ceramic hob, fridge, microwave and all the cooking equipment required. The rest of the accommodation, of course, includes a bed, television, desk and plenty of storage space for comfortable, functional living. The communal areas of the Artemisia Bordeaux residence are not to be outdone: as well as being able to take advantage of the fitness area, which is open to all, residents also have privileged access to the shared vegetable garden and the green terrace, which offers a place to relax and socialise. A green setting that will appeal to students looking for well-being and social interaction.

Major players in the creative industries

Over the last few decades, Bordeaux has continued to develop its influence in the entertainment and creative technology sectors. The installation of Ubisoft in 2017 and its recent move to the right bank, in what is now the company’s largest studio in France (7,500m² for 400 employees), are tangible proof of Bordeaux’s ongoing commitment to positioning itself as a major hub in the creative and digital industries. Other players, such as development studio Asobo, known for acclaimed titles like A Plague Tale: Innocence and Microsoft Flight Simulator, Bordeaux-based SolidAnim, which specialises in visual effects, animation and motion capture, and which collaborated on the films Warcraft: The Beginning and Alice Through the Looking Glass, the Danish animation company Sun Creature, and the Cité Numérique, due to open in 2020, are all part of this dynamic, helping to position Bordeaux as a centre of excellence for digital and creative technologies.

The inauguration of the MECA (Maison de l’économie créative et de la culture de la région Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and the Bassin des Lumières (Bassin des Lumières) also marked an important milestone, with these two venues now acting as pillars of artistic creation and innovation in Bordeaux. The city also hosts other major events in the fields of digital creation and visual effects every year, including Cartoon Movie, the Festival des Nuits Magiques, the Animasia Bordeaux Festival, the Bordeaux GeekFest and the Horizons video game forum. These not-to-be-missed events offer ESMA Bordeaux students unique opportunities to explore innovative art forms, expand their professional network and deepen their expertise in their chosen sectors!
