We’re very pleased to announce that our graduation film « Claw » (ESMA 2023) has been selected as one of the student short films at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival !

Claw, a horrific comedy in the tradition of the genre’s classics

Could this be the start of a waking dream? The graduation film Claw – directed by Ayoub Chaibi, Marianne Dautheville, Chloé Ferrus, Lucas Ferrer, Thomas Pétroni, Mélissa Saba, Dylan Sayagh, Alizée Valenzuela and Florian Wagner – has just been included in the official selection of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in the « Graduation films in competition » category. This recognition – which is a real honour for our students – is the first step towards underlining the quality of the production and heralding a bright future in the film industry for our young artists.

This year, there are no fewer than 40 student films in the « Graduation Films in Competition » category, ready to compete against each other in the hope of winning one of the prestigious prizes awarded in this category (Graduation Film Cristal, Jury Prize and Lotte Reiniger Prize).

Directed by 9 ESMA students, Claw is a horrific comedy inspired by 80s slashers such as Halloween: Night of the Masks (1978), Friday the 13th (1980) and Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), in which we follow the adventures of Andrew, a young film buff who finds himself thrust into the horror film he is watching, with the aim of killing the remaining victims instead of the killer.

Annecy Festival : l’ESMA regularly in the spotlight

Every year, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival is a must-see for ESMA films, and the list of accolades continues to grow year after year. Among the school’s award-winning films are :

  • Pas à pas, which in 2017 won the Jury Mention in the « Graduation Films » category,
  • Amir & Amira, which won the Jury Prize in 2015,
  • and Ex-ET, which won the same Jury Prize in 2009.

Lastly, the films La Fenêtre (The Window), The Short Story of a Fox and a Mouse and Château de sable (Sand Castle) made it into the shortlist of this prestigious festival in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

See you in Annecy from 11 to 14 June to find out the results !
