ESMA Video Games : a team of former students finalists in the Yugo BAFTA Students Awards

BAFTA - British Academy of Film and Television Arts – is an academy made up of more than 6,000 professionals from the film, television and video games industries. Its international reach enables it to carry out its mission : to support, develop and promote the art of the moving image by rewarding excellence each year, with prizes for the best projects and productions.

Rwarding the next generation

The Yugo BAFTA Student Award is the annual event that celebrates the work of a whole new generation of video games talent from around the world. Initially reserved for American students only, this competition has been open to schools and students from any country since 2017.

This year for the Yugo BAFTA Students Awards, the competition was intense: over 800 entries were received from 109 schools in 37 countries, across all categories (documentary, animation, video games, etc.).

A team of Esma alumni has made the shortlist of the last 3 finalists in the video games section of the Yugo BAFTA Students Awards!

Their graduation game, Heart of the Abyss, is a Hack’n Slash / Boss Fight in which the ocean guardian’s mission is to defeat a creature corrupted by a mysterious evil that terrorises the depths of the ocean.

<a springboard for an international career

The English equivalent of the Oscars or the Césars, the BAFTA Awards ceremony will take place in the United States, in Los Angeles on 11 July.

The next step for our finalists is to fly to California and hope to win1st prize! They will also have the opportunity to visit studios, production agencies and iconic locations in the City of Angels. It’s a great opportunity to showcase their creativity and work to industry professionals, as well as meeting them to develop their network and explore new career opportunities.
