A look back at the 2021 jury for the CG Animation and FX Master Degree. A special year because the Lyon campus presented its first class. A total of 26 films were presented, made by 192 students.

FOUR CAMPUSES COME TOGETHER FOR A MAGICAL DAY

A major and long-awaited event in the life of a CG Animation and FX Master Degree student, the graduation jury marks the end of their life as students before joining the great community of professionals in the world of digital imaging.

It was therefore on Thursday, September 9 that not three but all four ESMA campuses gathered together! Indeed, for the first time in its history, all of ESMA’s schools participated in the jury as Lyon screened its very first short films. The Lyon teams were both proud and apprehensive as they shared the fruits of four years of work with other schools that were much more experienced in this exercise.

In all, no less than 26 films were presented to the jury members! That’s 7 more than the previous year, made by 192 motivated and invested students. A whole afternoon was dedicated to the diffusion of the films to the students and their relatives. The themes of the films covered a wide spectrum, from humor to darker or more sensitive stories. A party was organized to close the day in beauty (all in the strictest respect of the sanitary rules and the governmental demands in force).

THE JURY

This year, the jury had a special flavor since two presidents were appointed this year. Kristof Serrand (Head of Character Animation at Dreamworks for more than 25 years, now working at Netflix Animation) as president of the jury and Gérard Raucoules as honorary president. For nearly 18 years Gérard was responsible for the CG Animation and FX Master Degree at ESMA before leaving for a well-deserved retirement. A final tribute to this key figure of ESMA who has been by the side of so many students, even after they left the school.

The list of jury members : AMC SIGGRAPH / Big Compagny / Blue Spirit / Brunch Studio / Content Factory by Prodigious / Creative Assembly / Cube Creative / Digiblur / Digital District / DNEG / Dwarf Animation Studio / EDDY / Electric Theatre Collective / Floating Rock / Fortiche Animation / Framestore / Illogic Studios / Illumination Mac Guff / In efecto / Locksmith Animation / Mathematic / Menhir FX / Mikros / Netflix / Nobody Studio / One of us / Passion Paris – Passion Animation Studios / Reveals / Rodeo FX / Superprod / TAT Prod / Tsunami / Ubisoft Montpellier / Union VFX / Unit Image / Untold Studios / Xilam Animation / 3DVF – Progiss

This year again, nearly forty studios participated in the jury, both in person and digitally, attending the screening of the films either directly from the Gaumont Multiplexe of Montpellier or via the dedicated online platform. The same was true for the job fair which traditionally takes place the day after the screening. On Friday, 1,200 interviews were scheduled for the students. This will allow them to take a first step towards their future career.

Don’t wait any longer to discover the 2020 list of winners!
