Every year, the École Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques (ESMA) celebrates the end of its Concept Art Illustration students' course with an exceptional event: the Concept Art Illustration Grand Prix.
This not-to-be-missed event marks the conclusion of three intense years of creative and technical work for our students. At the end of the course, the class of 2024 had the opportunity to present their professional project to a panel of recognised industry professionals.
Here's a look back at this major event, which highlighted the talent and professionalism of the Class of 2024.

A life-size exhibition

For the occasion, the cinema studio on the Montpellier campus was transformed into a magnificent exhibition space for 48 hours. Illustrated books, board games, comic strips, concept maps… The media were many and varied, as were the artistic styles. The exhibition was a real showcase for the skills and creativity of the students, illustrating the diversity of career opportunities in the field of conceptual illustration.

Visitors were able to wander among the works, immersed in universes as original as they were captivating.

Each project was the fruit of several months of intensive work, a perfect synthesis of the techniques acquired during their studies.

The diversity of the works on show demonstrated the breadth of possibilities offered by this discipline.

A two-stage presentation

The Grand Prix took place over two days, each with its own highlights. On the first day, the students presented their final-year projects in front of their teachers, who had accompanied them throughout their third year. This was an opportunity to measure the progress made, the artistic choices made and the maturity of each student’s creative approach.

On the second day, the excitement reached its peak with the arrival of the industry professionals who had come to assess the projects. The students’ stress was palpable, but their determination to excel made a strong impression. The jury, made up of leading figures in the field of illustration and concept art, praised the exceptional quality of the work submitted and the professionalism shown by the students.
